accessibility sketch
This app is great. Lyft cars are cleaner and newer than taxis, Drivers are generally more helpful and professional. The app doesn't ly about wen my ride will show up. I can call or text them directly and they me. It's really just too bad a real taxi company didn't think of doing this first. If I had a complaint it would be that they fiddle around with the pricing, cranking it up and down at apparently random intervals
Now as much as I like the app, it has accessibility drawbacks. As I often do, I beat the bushes trying to contact some one about these issues before slamming them in a review. This company was not particularly interested in hearing about accessibility improvements.
First, virtually everything in the app is clicable. Talkback interacts with most of these items, but doesn't announce everything in such a way as to let you know that it can be interacted with. For example, double tap on the sign post showing your driver's name and vehicle information even though it doesn't appear to be a link or button and you'll get two or three screens worth of bio on your driver. Tap around on things and you begin to realize its a feature rich app.
Labels on graphics and controls need a lot of work. I posted a very basic graphics label file to get you started, but it definitely needs a lot of work. The final payment screen needs some labels, but it disappears on it's own before I can get the labels done. It may take some time before I can finish this project. If you like the app and want to take on the labelling, please be my guest.
Finally the one showstopper bug. The rating system is completely broken. Talkback can not see or interact with ratings at all. Normally ratings are a fluffy feature, but in this case, ratings effect driver's ability to acquire rides. If I rate a driver three or lower, I won't get that driver again. If a driver's rating falls too low on average, that driver loses their account. It's very important to reward good drivers with a high rating and if you have a bad experience with some one, you want to be able to rate them down so that you don't ride with them anymore. It is possible to submit a payment without rating, but far from advisable.
I don't know how Lyft stacks up against other ride sharing apps in terms of accessibility. I got a fist full of ride credits for referring people and never thought of using anything else. It could be more access friendly, and maybe if multiple requests for improvements reach them it will.
