What to expect from atbat
Baseball is back! Recently my phone delivered an update to atbat 2015 and I forked out for a month subscription so I could get the radio brodcasts. It is an excellent thing for MLB that they have such a secure monopoly on major league baseball brodcasting. If I could get games from any one else, I certainly would choose to do that. Customer service is abominable and paying twice to receive games on a desktop and a mobile device strikes me as usurerous, especially because mobile does not offer archive radio brodcasts.
First, what works. Audio is a button at the top of every screen. All the feeds are accessible. All the features of the app are sitting in a navigation drawer which fills nearly three screens of features, many of which simply divert you to the mlb.tv mobile site.
A number of things could be improved in this app accessibility wise to make the experience less clunky. The webviews are not really all that functional. News articles are full web views with all the web view features'; However, many of the main screens of the app including standings, and scoreboard are not actually fully modern webviews with all the features. They load very slowly and explore by touch takes a long time to get through the information.
I've been trying and trying to understand the scoreboard but without success. Unlike the stats andd standings sections which are laid out in tables, the scoreboard has a two team layout with all the numbers lumped in together with no indication as to what each number is. If some one can demistify this for me I would appreciate it.
All in all, it's not a terrible app, but could be a lot better.
