Unstable but awsome when working
I next Bus essentially finds your nearest bus stop and then shows in real time when the bus will arrive. You have to have a supported transit system, but there are a lot of them.
In it’s most basic funtion, this app is usible. It will open showing your nearest stop both inbound and outbount, and the routs and times scheduled to arrive there for the next hour or two. Only one button is not labeled and I can’t find out what that button does just by tapping on it. Everything else in the app is well marked. The app is free and so it is what it is.
Now, having said that, here are the issues I’ve found. The app frequently takes three to five minutes to load itself on my moto G. I tend to turn it on well before I plan to leave. The web view that shows the routs and times is unstable. Sometimes it reads, other times not. I’m hoping this will improve with android L.
Adding favourites is off limits with talkback. The add favourite button is berried in the map wich talkback ignores completely. There aren’t too many times when I want to know the arrival time for a stop where I’m not currently standing waiting for a bus, but I can think of a few instances when this would be handy. A feature in the text area of the web view to add the current stop to favourites would be handy. Then, I could mark several stops I use frequently and plan ahead by looking at the projected arrivals. OCD you say? In a region with only one hour bus service, not so much. Besides, sighted users can do it. Why can’t I?
Just for fun, I tried to ask I Next bus to show me the projections for a stop of my choosing. It presented me with the entire litany of supported transit systems. One of the systems I use is located in the R’s and another is located in the T’s. I got so board two finger scrolling the list up and up and up and up, that I, Well, Gave up. A search box and a feature where the local transit system is placed at the top would be super.
So, to me, this app is not really as usefull as all that. I haven’t found a better utility for this purpose though. I’m just hoping it becomes more stable in Android L.
android l has been kind to this app
Since updating my moto G to lollypop 5.1 this app has seen a staggering upgrade in functionality. The current version loads in real time and the clunky webview has been replaced by a streamlined menu. The menu has options for maps, stops, transit systems and at the bottom an entry for what it detects to be your local transit system. If you hit your loacl system it detects nearby stops based on your location and shows the rout times and such. Reading this info takes a bit of getting used to, but I think I will do an audio tutorial to demonstrate the functionality, especially if a few users vode this up to show they are interested.
INextBus made it to homescreen three in the last few months just by being neet and clean. It was always useful, but now that it's fast and reliable I can't imagine being without it.
