There are two main methods of stopping and starting Talkback.
Before we jump into that, let's get all our ducks in a row!
We need to make sure that we set up Talkback the way it needs to in
order to be able to do what we want, so,
1. Lets Navigate to the System Settings,
2. Let's find "accessibility," and tap on it,
3. Just below "speak passwords" is "Accessibility shortcut", make sure
it says "on"; and if it isn't, then tap on it and find a button near
the top right corner and tap on it to toggle it to the "on" position.
4. Let's scroll back down and find Talkback and Tap on it,
5. After tapping on Talkback, let's Find the "settings" for Talkback,
somewhere just above the homekey or in that general area.
6. Let's now tap on that "settings" button.
7. After tapping on "settings," we are presented with all kinds of
choices, scroll up till you get to the last page,
8. Now let's find an item called "resume from Suspend",
9. Tap on that "resume from suspend",
10. Here, we are presented with three options to choose from, (the
first one says "when screen turns on". The second one says, "When lock
screen is shown" and the third one says "in notification only." My
suggestion is to choose the second option that says "when locked
screen is shown." Choosing that one would make it work for you every time.
Now that we have that out of the way, let's now go over how to stop
and Start Talkback. Here we go:
As I said above, there are two methods of stopping and starting TB.
There is the "suspend" method, and then there is the one that you
actually stop Talkback as a service from running. Let's start with suspending Talkback.
1. Draw a straight line from near the top downward and then curve to the
right, (this is called the "Global gesture), doing this would bring up
a wheel-like, circular shape in the middle of your screen, but what we
need, is not on this wheel-like shape but rather, it's at the very top
of the phone, and from the very left corner, there is the "Pause
feedback"; and that is the button you need to tap on.
2. Tap on "pause feedback", you would get a message saying that touching
OK would suspend Talkback.
3. Now explore toward the bottom of the phone and you would find the "OK"
button. Tap on that and Talkback would stop talking.
4. When you are ready for Talkback to come back on, hit the power button
to shut of the screen.
5. Now hit the power button again to turn the screen back on. Turning the
screen back on, resumes Talkback from the suspension.
Now, we are going to look at the second method and this one actually
has to do with stopping Talkback as a service rather than just
suspending it. Here is how:
1. Navigate to system Settings,
2. Tap on Accessibility,
3. Find Talkback, and it will say "Talkback, on", go ahead and tap on it;
4. After tapping on Talkback, at the top right corner of the phone is an
"on/off" switch.
5. Tap on that button which should say "On switch"
6. A message comes on asking you as to whether you really want to stop
Talkback, and if so, then tap the OK button.
7. Tap on OK, and this stops Talkback.
8. Now this action has stopped Talkback as a service and Talkback is not
going to be on again even if you restart the phone. The only way to
bring it back on without the need to restart the phone is using steps
nine and ten below.
9. Now hold down the power button for about three or four seconds,
10. Put two fingers down on the face of the phone (very important! DO
NOT TAP), just hold your two fingers down and you will hear Talkback
come up to say, "keep holding two fingers down to enable
accessibility" followed by "accessibility enabled."
