Today I updated Talkback to the most recent version available in the Google Play Store. It is now more difficult/impossible for me to navigate the touchscreen. Scrolling up/down is now a challenge; Talkback pops up a notification regularly asking how I want to navigate (lines, paragraphs, characters, words...) As a totally blind person, these inconveniences are a problem. How can i set Talkback back to the way it was prior to the recent app update? I don't know what type of Android phone I have.

What icons are near Manage Gestures. I find settings about what to speak but am having trouble locating Manage Gestures in Talkback settings.

If answers one and two don't get you up and running, post here or on the eyes-free google group. Let us know what version of talkback you need, and some one might have an installer package for that version they would be willing to share.

If after all, you don't like answer one, give this a try. Navigate to settings, apps, talkback. Double tap on uninstall update. Double tap on yes to confirm. Ideally, your old version of talkback will come up talking though this may depend on your phone model. It might be a good idea to have back up eyes just in case. Note that if you see an uninstall button along with or in place of an uninstall updates button, these are not the same. Generally talkback can not be completely uninstalled in this way, but older phones that didn't originally ship with talkback might actually allow you to do so. This would be bad.

Hi, I have a few answers for this issue. It's really tough since we don't really know exactly what you liked about the old way. Here are a few answers. please vote up the one you like. First answer is enjoy the new update. It has much needed new features. In stead, embark on an archiological expidition through settings, accessibility, talkback, talkback settings, manage gestures. There you will find a list of about 10 or 20 tasks that can be accomplished using assignable gestures. I have flick left and right set to change granularities, flick left and right to focus the previous or next item on the screen by granularity, two finger flick down to read from the current item and two finger flick up to read from the top though I seldom use that one. I think if you do this, your learning curve on the new talkback will be a much more pleasant experience, and you will get all the new features such as the ability to export labels and the ability to suspend and resume talkback using the volume and power buttons.
