Best code editor I found so far
This app at least partially answers my question about writing code on android. Last week I successfully edited some php. I have tried several code editors. All of the others were duds. This one has some issues which I’ll describe but is basically working.
Here’s what I like:
There is keyboard support and a set of keyboard shortcuts. I have not been able to find a list, but there is a reference to one. I’ll post it here if I find it.
Pro lets me edit pages directly on server in stead of downloading first with turbo.
There is a go to line feature.
The ads in the free version do not get in my way as a talkback user, though sighted reviewers in the play store seem to find them seriously obnoxious.
Here’s what needs work:
Talkback doesn’t track very well when navigating documents with the arrow keys. This may be a talkback issue since it happens in other word processing apps as well.
Line numbering is really funny. All the line numbers are stored in an edit box, and talkback doesn’t recognize which line is active. I would like to see the line indicator changed to a picker that would show only the current line, but would also allow rapid scrolling. It’s still possible to access a particular line using go to line but it would help to have full access to the line indicator.
The app offers themes including a midnight theme, but unfortunately themes are only available inn the pro version. It would be nice if the midnight theme could go into the free version so the app could be experienced fully by low vision users who need that feature.
Now, this is just a nitpicky thing, but there are two buttons labeled file. One is for saving and opening and so on. The other one has sharing options. Fortunately the app won’t let you take destructive action without warning you. So, I was able to play around and figure it all out.
Finally, the app lets you open multiple files at once and the tab bar showing the files that are open works just fine. In a picture perfect world, I could swipe between open files. Until then, tapping is alright.
I am teaching myself wordpress and despite the many niggling accessibility issues I have with this app, I vastly prefer it to wordpress so called editor. The pro version does not break the bank and I plan to pick it up soon.
Happy coding.
