Actually, talkback is running on my phone, but I am unable to use the gestures. I cannot use the gestures to find anything even on the home screen. I instead, use the bluetooth keyboard. When I tap on an item I touch on the phone, the tap does not select anything. And of course one cannot use the bluetooth keyboard to work on an opened app. The gestures just have to be used. When I open an app, I don't even get to hear anything even when I touch the screen. It is silent. Some times, I only hear the same item being repeated where ever I touch on the screen.
Please can anyone understand why this is happening: do I need to re-set talkback, if so what do I need to re-set therein, to make me able to use the gestures Explore by touch is enabled already, but I don't understand what the problem is. I don't understand why the gestures are not working for me, despite the fact that talkback is enabled.

Re:: Can anyone help me understand why I cannot use the talkback
Answer:
This is a very odd behavior!
Did you recently receive an "over-the-air" system update or manually flashed the phone?
What Launcher does this phone use?
Have you tried using the Google Now Launcher from:

What phone is this one that you are having these issues with?
Response To My question
Answer:
Thanks for your response. Actually, my phone is a brand new Samsung Galaxy J2 phone. I downloaded the Google launcher about a week ago, from the Google play store.

I got the phone a week ago.
Maybe the problem is that I am not tapping on the phone properly. Maybe talkback or the phone does not recognize my taps, based on the way I do it.
So, if I may ask, is thre a specific way by which one taps on the device. Is there a partocular way one has to use his finger or fingers to tap? when I turn on the phone, talkback tells me to tap with two fingers to unlock the phone: I do this repeatedly, and the phone remains locked. I have to use the bluetooth keyboard to unlock it.
I look forward to reading from you again.
Ok, so for example to swipe
Answer:
Ok, so for example to swipe up to unlock the phone swipe up with two fingers, this should in fact work. It was a sighted person who taught me that one funny enough.. As for why you cannot use the gestures I find this very odd and talkback worked for me out of the box with my LG g6.
